In January and February this year CED ran two training programmes in Rwanda. These were in the construction of “ferro-cement” rainwater harvesting tanks to store water gathered off the roofs of people’s homes. The first course was in the Eastern Region in the returnee village of Kavumu, Mayange and the second in the Western region in Kamembe. The second involved students from the Democratic Republic of Congo. In both cases the students worked well, and the hope is that these few students will take their newfound skills back to their local communities where the techniques can be replicated many times and spread through the district.
Work continues with the construction of Rainwater Harvesting Tanks and Kitchen Gardens under local supervision in Kavumu in Mayange. Alan Michell, one of our Engineers, is visiting Rwanda during May to review progress and help with any issues that may have arisen.
